It has a pulse!

If just barely.

I'm in the process of switching over to a new computer. Once I'm all settled in (probably by the end of the week), I'll try to be a little more active again.

And one more thing..

Here's a Charlie Chaplin doodle. Weird hand and magical cane and all the other fun, anatomical anomalies that we know and love.

I did things!

I've apparently hit a big block of awkward.

It's one of those moments where I guess I'm not entirely sure what style I'm actually drawing in, so I'm just all over the place and nothing feels right. It's a bit frustrating because I can't seem to get a feel for new characters. While I try to figure everything out, I've been trucking through and continuing to draw regardless of whether the character is my own, or simply my own take on an existing character.

So I present my two most recent doodlings.

This is just a screen grab since I'm still really working on her, and she's rather blinding to look at right now. I'm desperately trying to make her a character that'll last. I've named her, which means I can't give her up now because that's just rude. Her name is "Hattie".

This is my take on a character from an online adventure thing that's simply archived now. The character is called "Subject Six". and comes from Ruby Quest (which you can find here).

I think one of my issues with my style is that I'm not as much into drawing silly things anymore like I was in high school. Now I'd much rather draw creepy-ish things like Six, but I would still like to be able to be silly. I just need to find my happy medium, or at least be able to transition between the two more easily.

And then maybe one day I'll be able to draw cutesy things.
That's my goal: be able to draw cutesy things.

Master transcription

We have to do master transcriptions for my Figure Drawing class, so I lovingly chose Bernini. This above image is my drawing; the bottom one is the original:

I messed up a bit in the skirt, as you can see. I kept getting lost in all the lines. Either way, I'm content with it.

A little practice with digital works.

So I've been all about paper and pencil for as long as I can remember, but I recognize that the industry is digital now. That means I have to get over it and start really refining my digital art skills.

That being said, here's Cesare from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

The image is significantly larger than this ^^^
So feel free to click on it and take a look.

Of productivity and headaches.

I wasn't very productive over my winter break for personal reasons, but now that I'm back and comfortable in my new semester, I started to do more.

First and foremost, I started working with Maya.
And by "working with", I mean "begging the gods to have the program work properly just this once oh no not again why".

Allow me to show you what happened when I tried to create a cute little robot:

I have to redo him, because there was no salvaging him. Rest in Peace, little robot monkey.

Maya is going to be my headache for the rest of the semester.

I also started dabbling in Flash more in-depth than I used to. I seemed to have an issue with being able to vary the stroke width of the paint brush. It only changed depeding on how zoomed in/out I was. It also didn't pick up my pen pressure regardless of my settings. Is that just flash being glitchy? Input would be greatly appreciated.
Anyway, the animation I came up with is...rather dumb. I made it dumber by adding music, and I'm actually fairly content with it aside from the typical gripe that occurs when flash and quicktime are forced to share the sandbox (hint: the missile is supposed to actually look like it's moving towards you, not just be two circles of different sizes). I now share it with you for your viewing pleasure.

In my digital videos class, we also had to do a storyboard thing of a student being late for school. My friends and I did a sequence in which two girls were late for anime school. As seen here:
The eyes took the entire thing to a whole new level of creepy we didn't really anticipate. Also, the bread turned out to be stale.

Now these last two things I wasn't sure if I should include because it's "fanart", so it's going under a page break for those who don't care to see it. Also, one is kind of "graphic"...I guess. I'm feeling rather speculative.
